Hello, I'm Jon.
As the Founder and Lead Tutor at MiltonRose Learning, I bring over twenty years of experience from some of the UK's most challenging classrooms and have conducted more than 37,000 online sessions globally. In addition, I’ve spent the past decade as a property developer, managing over £53 million of UK real estate and building a portfolio of £3.1 million.
I am immensely proud to have founded MiltonRose Learning, a culmination of my passion for education and personal growth. Below, you’ll find my story—thank you for taking the time to read it.
My Story
After being born into social deprivation in the UK, I can honestly say that, from a very young age, I understood the beauty of education in providing the opportunity for a better life.
This simple realisation has spurred me on throughout my life.
Beginning my career in inner-city Birmingham as a very "green" twenty year old teacher, I was struck by the widespread poverty and learner disenchantment, which I set to dispel with all my energy. Fast forward twenty years, and I'm proud to have served with distinction, as Head of Department; an Advanced Practitioner, Lead Internal Verifier, and Examiner, with a long track record of academic success behind me.
However, my entrepreneurial spirit has always burned brightly alongside. Therefore, I quickly perceived the nascent role of personal tuition, which was just starting to coalesce at the start of my career. As my reputation began to spread, my tutoring practice blossomed, until I was teaching students across five continents, from Sheffield to Shanghai (which inevitably led to some very late nights!)
This has seen me be lucky enough to be sought out to appear on national media and radio, tutoring the children of prominent public figures including Premiership footballers, PGA Junior golfers, England cricketers, and Olympic athletes, all of which has been extremely humbling.
In building a successful global tutoring practice (now under the MiltonRose Learning brand), I then pivoted to become an accomplished property developer, leading to the construction of my own significant UK portfolio of residential holdings and nascent blue-chip stocks, as well as co-founder of a former nationally operating property brand.
As I quickly learned, starting companies from scratch is not for the faint-hearted! Nevertheless, the many long days' hard work helped secure the future of my family so they wouldn't have to endure the poverty of my early life, an overarching goal that has always been very dear to me.
When not tutoring or managing my investments, I confess to being something of a political "geek". Therefore, in my remaining spare time, I am currently engaged in the pre-reading for my future PHD in International Relations, during which I will study the Grand Strategy of the USA and China, as they negotiate the Twenty-First Century during a potentially dangerous period of superpower decline.
I also enjoy travelling with my young family in Tuscany and my wife's Mauritian homeland; supporting my beloved Manchester United (a very interesting experience at the moment!); hiking in our home of the Malvern Hills, and playing the drums.
Like the many young students I tutor across the globe, I still have many ambitions to realise, with the means of success always being the same: hard work, creativity, and resilience.
With those qualities acting in concert, anything can be achieved.
Never let go of your dreams.
Regards, Jon
(Malvern Hills).
